About Me

Hey! I'm Omkar Kulkarni from Saratoga, California. I am currently a master's student pursuing a major in Electrical Engineering with a focus in power electronics.

Over the past few years, I have explored a range of topics including point-of-load converters for space applications, insulation reliability, multilayer insulation under compression, and cryogenics for superconducting electric machines. Research has become a meaningful way for me to connect theory with real-world challenges and contribute to the future of green technology.

Beyond academics, I enjoy running, playing basketball, and skiing. I played trombone in marching, concert, jazz, and honor bands throughout middle and high school. I was also involved in chess club and a Bollywood dancing group during that time.

In college, I joined Eta Kappa Nu (HKN), the UIUC Climbing Club, and Illini Solar Car. I introduce ISC in detail in the projects tab.

More recently, I have been learning Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu with Kru/Sensei Brian Scott, with some yoga on the side. I am an avid (not voracious) reader with a particular interest in self-help books, autobiographies, and novels. I also have a strong interest in aviation and am working towards obtaining my Private Pilot's License (PPL).

In my free time, I enjoy hiking and exploring nature. Some of my most memorable experiences have come from traveling and immersing myself in new cultures, many of which I'm attempting to document in the travel section of this site.

Feel free to connect with me to discuss shared interests or exciting opportunities!
